The Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT-U) established a designated in-campus caging area for all animals, citing safety and sanitation concerns, following a memorandum on the new campus cats and dogs policy dated June 8, 2026.
The new policy banned pets in indoor university facilities such as classrooms, libraries, faculty rooms, and function halls. Instead, individuals bringing pets to the campus must leave them at the caging area, along with ample necessities. Currently, the caging area is located at the back of the Chemical Engineering Office in the Allied Building.
Furthermore, pets must be healthy and vaccinated upon entry into the campus grounds. The owners will be held liable for any damage or distress caused by their pets.
CIT-U will also open adoption for strays or unclaimed animals found on the campus. Those who wish to adopt must coordinate through the Office of the Property Custodian regarding separate adoption procedures.
While acknowledging their positive impact on wellness and community engagement, the administration has received “concerns related to safety, sanitation, accessibility, and operational efficiency,” necessitating the new policies.
